A Response to Donald Trump's Racism and Disregard for the Dignity of Every Black American

Baratunde Thurston's heartfelt response to the undying Gospel According to Hate and Racism that fueled the release of President Obama's birth certificate to Donald Trump's Tea Party.

Lawrence O'Donnell Blasts FOX's Bill O'Reilly and Glenn Beck for Their "Concerns" about Japan

Here's Lawrence O'Donnell's reaction to Bill O'Reilly's claims that the news media is falsely "hyping" the tragedy in Japan, while O'Reilly's FOX compatriot Glenn Beck invokes Revelation, "these days," and the end of the world as we know it.  Beck's god "may or may not be" punishing Japan with the earthquake/tsunami and "may or may not be" coming to eradicate the human race.  O'Donnell blasts Beck's fear-driven eschatology and hate-based theology.  How refreshing to see reason over religion on the news!

Wisconsin, Michigan, Washington, Public vs Private Sector, Salaries, Unions, Tax Cuts, Corporations, Greed, Religion, Hypocrisy, & the Republican Jesus Christ of the Upper Class: David Koch -- A Lament for Our Time

Good Christian white rich men rejoice!  With heart and soul and voice!  If Calvin was right and the Prosperity Gospel is true, then you are on your way to heaven.  Only, you may not want to stay long as your Jesus will be hanging out with the poor people who's rights, benefits, and livelihoods you've crushed.

You say it's the middle class and public employees that are bankrupting America, especially those money-hoarding teachers, power-hungry nurses, and lazy road-construction workers.  You hypocrites!  You forget, that we are the poor souls are paying your salaries.

So, why don't all of you Tea Party/Republican politicians put your money where your mouth is and lower your wages, benefits, and expense accounts to the average made by your fellow public workers?  In Wisconsin, you would drop to a salary of $50,774; in Michigan, $58,801; and in Washington, DC, $82,607 (which is only $457 more than DC's private sector workers.  Hmm.  I wonder if the immense cluster of elected public officials and their six-figure salaries have anything to do with DC leading the nation's average public-sector salary?).  Or better yet, you should all work for free.   When you each average nearly a million dollars in personal wealth, why should we be paying you?

But the public money that the Scott Walkers and John Boeners of the world are being paid is peanuts compared to the billions their benevolent benefactors are making thanks to unprecedented tax cuts, courtesy of the political lobbying and campaign donations bought and paid for by multi-billionaire heir David Koch (Roman Catholic) and the like.

Mister Koch--Or shall we refer to you as "Master"?--you might want to catch up on the social ethics of your own precious Holy (Dysfunctional) Mother Church, who has supported the right of workers to join unions and collectively bargain, not to mention a just wages, universal healthcare, taxation of the rich, and service to the poor, alien, and ill.  Of course, Mother Church is still giving you and your Speaker Boehner communion, which makes her a hypocrite, as well.

Oh, America, when did you become so ungrateful?  Oh, Middle Class, when did you become so ignorant, so easily duped?  When will you wake up and see that the problem is not that public workers are paid too much but that private workers, whose corporate overlords are stuffing their pockets via tax loopholes they've bought and secured with your votes, are paid too little!  You are fighting over the difference of a few thousand dollars, while the upper class of our nation, Wall Street thieves, and corporate hoarders are transferring wealth from the middle class to the upper 2% at unprecedented proportions.  The Forbes 400, the richest 400 individuals in the nation, have no amassed more wealth than a combined 155 million Americans.

Yes, 0.0001% of the American public holds 50% of the nation's wealth.  Don't believe me, take it up with Forbes and simple math (although I had to get out my old scientific calculator to divide 400 by 310,964,000).  Trickle down economics--the warrior's cry of the Republican politicians of my youth--has shed it's grace on thee, upper 0.0001%.

But still, the GOP wants to extend tax cuts to the wealthiest Americans at the expense of the poor and middle class.  This chart from the Center for American Progress says it all:

If faced with such an immoral disparity, what would Jesus do?

Apparently, the Jesus of the United States of America would take back the loaves and fishes he'd given to the middle class of Wisconsin, shake the snow from his sandals, and walk across the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers to Wichita so he could hand-feed David Koch.
I've heard the middle and lower classes despairing on Facebook and in the streets, "What can we do?"  "We're helpless."  "We don't have the money to influence politicians like the corporations and billionaires do."  Well still have the votes, although the upper class is working pretty hard to take those away from us too.  We have the numbers.  It's time to STRIKE!  If every public employee in this nation stopped working for one or two days, the nation would come to a standstill.  And even David Koch couldn't save the upper class then.

Postscript: In my years as a Catholic school student, seminarian, and priest, I never once heard a private sector/Catholic school teacher or parish employee, who was making between twenty and forty thousand dollars while trying to feed a natural-family-planning family of four or five children, ever say, "You know, I'm making just the right amount of money for what I do."  So, let's not blame the state for being too generous to school teachers, when it's the private sector who refuses pay its workers a just wage.

        Hug a teacher!

"Highlights" for Adults: the Tea Partier and the Taliban

Here's a simple exercise reminiscent of the ones I completed in Highlights as a child, but this one is for adults.  What happens when a tea partier and a Taliban run into each other?

Hypocrisy Today: Iowa's Republican House Goes after Same-Sex Marriages AND Anything Resembling a Domestic Partnership

When the Religious Right and their anti-gay Republican (and sometimes Democrat) allies repeatedly claim that they're not against same-sex couples having equal civil rights as long as it's not called "marriage," they are lying.

A proposed amendment to the Iowa Constitution in the newly-elected Republican-controlled Iowa House is proof.

             The Des Moines Register reports:
The Iowa House Judiciary Committee approved a proposal Monday to amend the Iowa Constitution to prohibit same-sex marriages.
The vote was 13-8, with Rep. Kurt Swaim, a Bloomfield lawyer, the only Democrat to join Republicans in supporting it. The resolution is now eligible for debate by the full House
The amendment would not only prohibit same-sex marriages but also would deny state recognition to arrangements such as civil unions and domestic partnerships.
The resolution reads, "Marriage between one man and one woman shall be the only legal union valid or recognized in this state."
Once again, it's okay to lie and hit people with your god-stick, as long as Jesus is on your side.

Republicans Carl Paladino and Jan Brewer and Their Homophobic Hypocrisy

Anti-gay New York GOP gubernatorial candidate Carl Paladino attacked gays with homophobic hate speech earlier this week.  Since then, his nephew, who is gay, spoke out, offended.  So did Rudy Giuliani.  In turns out that Paladino's not only a homophobe but also a hypocrite.  As a landlord in Buffalo he rented to a gay bar (see video below).  Gay pride is fine as long as it brings in the bucks.

In Arizona, GOP senate candidate Jan Brewer, who signed the explosive papers-please-anti-immigrant law (leading in the polls by 13.5%), is also gay-baiting (like Christine O'Donnell did in her primary).  Brewer's campaign called for her opponent, Democrat Terry Goddard, to take a lie detector test to prove that he's not gay.  Brewer has excused herself, saying she doesn't need to apologize because she didn't say anything.  Come on.  It was her top political adviser who said it.  I thought that good leaders delegated power, but not responsibility.

            The bullying continues.

Lying, Flip-Flopping Republican Candidates & Personal Responsibility. Oh the Hypocrisy!

Last night, Rachel Maddow reported on the inconsistencies, backpedaling, and flat-out lies that certain Republican candidates have been caught in recently.

Here's what GOP Senate candidates Marco Rubio (Florida),  Sharron Angle (Nevada), and Ken Buck (Colorado) are respectively lying about concerning privatizing social security, privatizing the Veterans Administration and  "birth control pills are murder" legislation.

In this piece, Maddow unmasks the lack of "personal responsibility" in GOP candidates Meg Whitman (California), Christine O'Donnell (Delaware), Linda McMahon (Connecticut), and Joe Miller (Alaska) when they are caught in lies.  They blame someone else.  Gee, where did they learn to do that?

Ellen DeGeneres Responds to LGBT-Bullying-Related Suicides. My Take on Where Kids Get This Stuff

In the past month, there were four teen suicides related to bullying because the teens were or appeared to be homosexual.

It's starting even younger. An eleven-year-old boy had his arm broken by two other boys because he was a cheerleader.  People wonder where children learn to do such hateful things.  They learn from adults.

Bullying doesn't stop after high school.  It becomes free speech

Here's a tweet that rapper 50cent recently posted.

Don't forget Senator Saxby Chambliss' staffer posting a comment on Joe.My.God saying "All [gays] must die."  (Don't forget the sleazy lies that got good Christian Saxby elected in the first place.)

Watch the political commercials coming from the Right. They attack gay rights and paint us as sinners, enemies of the family, and less than human.

The Catholic Church in Iowa and Minnesota is disseminating flyers and DVDs calling for votes to ban same sex couple's civil marriages. The Tea Party/Republican candidates and senators are campaigning against and/or filibustering gay rights legislation.

            Children see. They learn.

Here's is Ellen DeGeneres' response to recent LGBT-bullying-related suicides.

Senate Republicans Holding Up Funding of National Women's History Museum

             USA Today reports:
A letter from two senators is the only thing blocking congressional approval of a decade-long effort to build a women's history museum in the nation's capital.
Sens. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., and Jim DeMint, R-S.C., have placed a "hold" on a bill that would sell land near the Smithsonian Institution for the National Women's History Museum. A "hold" is a Senate practice that prevents bills from passing with unanimous consent — and implicitly threatening a filibuster.
The senators say their concerns are financial: Though the museum would pay fair market value for the land, the group has raised little money. And they said the new institution would duplicate more than 100 similar museums — some of which already get taxpayer subsidies.
Abortion politics are also in play: The senators' action came two days after the Concerned Women for America, a conservative group, wrote DeMint asking for a hold. The group's CEO, Penny Nance, wrote in July that the museum would "focus on abortion rights without featuring any of the many contributions of the pro-life movement in America."

Iowa Catholic Bishops Demand a Constitutional Convention to Ban Same-Sex Marriages

Not to be outdone by Minnesota, the homophobic Catholic bishops and closeted priests of my home state have joined forces with conservative, Tea Party/Republicans in a new effort to strip same-sex couples of their civil marriage rights in that state.  They seek to impose Catholic and Conservative Christian law upon all citizens of the state.  But these churches are non-partisan, and therefore tax-exempt organizations.  Right.

The Iowa Catholic Conference, the political and policy arm of the state’s four Catholic dioceses, announced Monday that it is urging Iowans to convene a constitutional convention in order to eventually ban same-sex marriage.
“The ICC is encouraging Iowa Catholics to vote ‘yes’ on the decennial ballot question as a way to work with others for a marriage amendment to the Iowa Constitution that would affirm the traditional understanding that marriage is a union between a man and a woman,” said the group Call the Convention in a press release, later adding: “For far too long, the Iowa legislature has denied the people of Iowa their voice on issues such as traditional marriage, spending limits, tax reform, term limits, and Second Amendment rights.”
A push to call a convention this year has some high-profile Republican supporters, including Chuck Laudner, a former executive director of the Republican Party of Iowa and chief of staff for 5th District U.S. Rep. Steve King, R-Kiron; Robert Haus, a veteran Republican strategist who helped orchestrate the 2007 Iowa Straw Poll in Ames; Brent Hoffman, a former member of Sioux City’s city council; Patti Brown, a partner in the Iowa Policy Institute; and Craig Robinson, a conservative blogger and former political director of the Republican Party of Iowa.
Since when is "the right to bear arms" part of Catholic social teachings?  Also, "tax reform"?  It sounds like the ICC has been infected with Tea-Party fever.  If it walks, talks, lobbies and campaigns like a Conservative Republican...

Will the "traditional understanding" of marriage that the ICC seeks to write into the Iowa constitution include the tradition of priests having affairs with married men and women in their parishes?  Because that is one tradition that definitely needs to be preserved.
Will non-Catholics wishing to be civilly divorced need to go through a Catholic annulment process?  Will women once again be exchanged as property in these "traditional" marriages?  Will wives be forced to remain silent as their husbands beat and rape them?  Will interracial couples be denied civil marriage?  Will African-Americans be denied civil marriage?  Why pick on just the gays?  Why not go after every change that has ever taken place in the "traditional" institution of marriage?  If I'm being extreme in my argument, I'm only applying the "slippery slope" standard that Catholic moral theology uses to argue against any sort of progressive change in civil law.

The ICC is disseminating this "educational flyer" throughout Iowa.  The flyer prescribes how Catholics are to "form" their consciences.  It is full of the self-contradictory doublespeak that pervades Catholic moral theology.  The flyer defines how "forming" one's conscience involves learning Catholic teachings, praying about one's choices, forming one's own moral convictions, and then having the courage to act on one's convictions.  Then the flyer goes on to list a series of fourteen questions, that must be answered affirmatively, in order to be consistent with the Catholic Church's position.  This is the mind-screw of Catholic moral theology: form your conscience, but then you must do, believe, and vote as we tell you to.

             What happens if you don't?

I formed my conscience, as the church prescribed.  I got a Masters of Divinity at a Catholic seminary.  In my "well-formed conscience," I came to different conclusions.  I was ordered to obey my Iowa archbishop.  I followed my conscience.  I left the priesthood and the church.  But now, it's not enough for the church to let Catholics who disagree to just leave.  The church is going after civil laws in order to force all people, even those who disagree with Catholic teachings "in good conscience" and those who are not Catholics, to live according to tenants that a bunch of white, supposedly celibate and most likely gay clerics in the Vatican deem the only way to live.  Anything else in their eyes is "evil."

Iowa Catholics, who disagree need to speak up now and very loudly.

And for all you closeted priests, who remain, especially those of you who continue to "act out" on your "homosexual urges," you can live in truth.  There is life on the other side of the fear that keeps you in your shame.  There is love.  There is life beyond your hypocrisy.

Postscript: Zero of the fourteen positions on the ICC flyer called for stronger laws to protect children from sexual predators or for tougher punishments on child abusers/rapists and the organizations that have protected these criminals in the past.

        Representative Alan Grayson's New Ad

People might think Representative Alan Grayson is being extreme in the commercial embedded below.  But his point is valid.    Fundamentalist Christians imposing their religious law upon all Americans is the same as fundamentalist Muslims (a.k.a. the Taliban) imposing their religious law upon all the people of Middle Eastern nations.  Go Alan!

Health Insurance Giants Cut Child-Only Coverage; Number of Americans in Poverty and Uninsured Still Rising

Tomorrow, September 23rd, the following tenants of the health insurance reform go into effect:

        • Children can not be denied coverage due to preexisting conditions.
        • People can not be denied insurance for making innocent mistakes on their applications.
        • Children can stay on their parents' insurance plans until age 26.
        • Insurance companies must cover receommneded preventive services (mammograms, colonoscopies, immunizations, pre-natal and infant care) without charging out of pocket costs
        • People have the gaurnateed right to appeal insurance decisions to an independent third party
        • People have the right to chose their primary care provider (within their insurance company's network).

But the for-profit insurance companies have found a way around the new law. The Washington Post reports:
Some of the country's most prominent health insurance companies have decided to stop offering new child-only plans, rather than comply with rules in the new health-care law that will require such plans to start accepting children with preexisting medical conditions after Sept. 23.
"We're just days away from a new era when insurance companies must stop denying coverage to kids just because they are sick, and now some of the biggest changed their minds," Ethan Rome, executive director of Health Care for America Now, an advocacy group, said in a statement. "[It] is immoral, and to blame their appalling behavior on the new law is patently dishonest."
Three insurers - WellPoint, Cigna and CoventryOne - all cited uncertainty in the health insurance market for their decisions.
"We expect [insurance companies] to honor that commitment. Insurers shouldn't break their promise and turn their backs on some of our most vulnerable Americans," said Jessica Santillo, a spokeswoman for the Department of Health and Human Services.
Is the Obama administration really that naive?  Insurance companies have been turning their backs on the most vulnerable Americans for decades. Why would they stop now? Because they are profit based companies, they will always place their stockholders' money above the needs of the American people.

In the video embedded below, Keith Olbermann exposes the greed of the health insurance companies' decision to drop child-only plans.  Last-quarter WellPoint made $722 million in profits and Cigna: $294 million.  Last year, their CEOs made $13 million and $6, respectively.  CoventryOne's CEO made $17 million.  All of that money is made off American's human need for healthcare.  The system is immoral and remains broken.

For the entire health insurance reform will to go into effect, we have to wait until 2014 (unless the Republicans repeal it).  Then, it will be years before we know where it worked or failed.  What about the people who are uninsured in the meanwhile?  What about Americans between 55-64 year of age who get laid off?  From what I see there are no measures to help these individuals between now and 2014?  How many will suffer, go bankrupt, and/or die so that companies can continue to reap hundreds of millions in profits before 2014?

There are now more than 51 million American who lack health insurance.  43.6 million are living below the poverty line. (Stats from The Washington Post)  Unemployment is at 9/6%!  How are these Americans supposed to pay for health insurance?

Americans don't need the promise of affordable healthcare in 2014.  They need healthcare today!

The Democrats squandered their mandate and their promises of reforming the broken healthcare system on the Tea Party's rantings and ravings of "death panels" and Republican's protection of healthcare companies' campaign donations.  Obama's health reform might be better than nothing, but it is still failing Americans.

America is the land of the rich making a buck off the poor and the ill.  Dog bless America.

Hypocrite Christine O'Donnell "Dabbled in Witchcraft," Doesn't Lie, and Promoted "Ex-Gay" Ministry

Republican Senate Candidate Christine O'Donnell (Delaware) is a liar who claims she doesn't lie, which makes her a hypocrite.  She also has a video trail that is currently being mined.  Here are the latest highlights, which include her witchcraft and satanic days, her refusal to lie even to save an innocent life, and her history with "ex-gay" therapy.

Back in the late 90s, O'Donnell admitted on national television that she "dabbled in witchcraft."  Here's Bill Maher on the witchcraft "dabbling."  Does this mean that after her dabbling days, she went through her church's ex-witch ministry?

O'Donnell also claimed on national television that she never lies, and wouldn't lie, even to save a innocent person from being unjustly killed by someone like Hitler.  Was her grandfather Pope Pius XII?

But when it comes to her political history, O'Donnell has no problem lying, claiming that she beat Vice President Joe Biden in two of Delaware's three counties in the last senatorial election. When confronted with her lie, O'Donnell backpedaled by substituting another lie.  (And no innocent lives were at stake.)  Christine, it's time to join Liars Anonymous.

Here a former victim of O'Donnell's "ex-gay" ministry speaks out. Also, Rachel Maddow interviews the founder of Truth Wins Out, Wayne Besen, concerning O'Donnell's involvement in the "ex-gay therapy" scam. So if O'Donnell is elected, will she try to pass laws requiring all homosexual Americans to go through the SALT's de-gaying program?  After all, it worked so well for George Rekers.

Christine O'Donnell on Abortion, Rape, Incest, Homophobia, "Ex-Gays," Masturbation & Election Result Lies

Proud Christian Christine O'Donnell is officially the Republican nominee for U.S. Senate in Delaware.  There is already enough information on her in the news to write 10,000 dissertations.  Here are some of the highlights.

In the videos below, she is confronted about her lies about her performance in a previous bid for the senate.  She's exposed as paranoid.  She is against women's reproductive rights, even in cases of rape and incest.  She's homophobic, believes in ex-gay therapy, compares homosexuals to Hitler, and used gay-slurs and stereotypes against her Republican opponent for the nomination.  She's using Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin's talking points in her speeches, saying President Obama is "anti-American."  On the night of her primary win the nation GOP (including Karl Rove, who called her statements "nutty") said they wouldn't support her, but a day later they are singing her praises.

This is new face of the extremist Tea-Party-enhanced Republican party.

For example, five senate Republican nominees, including Rand Paul (KY), Sharron Angle (NV), Ken Buck (CO), Joe Miller (AK) and Christine O'Donnell (DE), have taken the extreme position that abortion should be illegal even for women pregnant in cases of rape and incest.  In the video embedded below, Rachel Maddow makes the following comment concerning these Republican party's hypocritical claims of being for small government while legislating American's most private choices:
The government should force rape vicitms under pain of criminal prosecution to give birth to their rapist's baby...If you are a fourtenn year old girl who is raped by your uncle or by your father, the government will force you, as a fourteen-year-old, to give birth to the child that is the product of that incestuous rape. Remember, this is the year of small government conservatives, getting government out of your life.
Here is Maddow's report on women running for office and women's rights in this year's elections.

The Republican flip-flop on Christine O'Donnell: Karl Rove calls Christine O'Donnell "nutty" and won't giving her GOP money to "I'm also helpin' her" get elected.

O'Donnell calling President Obama "anti-American" and trying to sound like Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin in speeches.

Below, Christine O'Donnell is exposed for lying about her performance in a previous election versus Joe Biden. When confronted with the hard statistical facts of of her loss to Biden, she lied again.  But she's a good Christian.  Her term as president and founder of The Savior's Alliance for Lifting the Truth, her condemnation of masturbation, and comparisons between homosexuals and Hitler, tell us so.
