For Harold Camping...

Postscript:

The world didn't end and guess who's millions of tax-exempt dollars richer?

     CNN reports:
At the center of it all, Camping's organization, Family Radio, is perfectly happy to take your money -- and in fact, received $80 million in contributions between 2005 and 2009. Camping founded Family Radio, a nonprofit Christian radio network based in Oakland, Calif. with about 65 stations across the country, in 1958.

REM Music Tribute to Harold Camping's Homophobic End of the World "Prophecy"

Have you noticed the billboards around the world?  Be afraid!  "Judgement Day" is upon us.

     Again.

I'm not talking family-values politician Arnold Schwarzenegger's spousal termination and judgment day.

Tomorrow, May 21, 2011, is going to be the start of the five-month Christian "apocalypse."  The Christian making this absurd prediction is Harold Camping of  Family Radio.
Don't forget to purchase your celebratory t-shirt.
Of course, Camping long ago discovered the lucrative nature of rapturous merchandising. He wrongly predicted the end of the world to happen back in 1994.  Why anyone continued to follow him is beyond me.  I guess you just gotta "have faith."

Guess which minority is being scapegoated as bringing on the "end times."   Ding.  Ding.  Ding.   Went the bell.  You guessed it: Gay Pride.  (Evil laugh.)  Check out homophobic Mr. Camping's incredible document, "Gay Pride: Planned by God as a Sign of the End."  Don't be surprised if FamilyRadio.com  has crashed.  What an omen that would be.

If you are a heretic, who will be left behind after the rapture for five months of unattended sin-time, don't worry.  You can join the half a million hellions who are attending the "Post Rapture Looting" party on Facebook.  Tonight, I'm camping out on Rodeo Drive.

Another Apparition: MRI, Deep Throat Jesus

Since no one came to believe in Jesus after he appeared on a doggy sphincter and then in some frozen pizza sauce, Jesus had to take it to the next level.  He has come again in the throat MRI of a South Carolina woman.

     Here is Deep Throat Jesus:
Don't you see him?  Perhaps you need some help.

If you look closely enough, you might be surprised to find that Jesus is joined by his mother and infant-self, Star Fox, Lord Voldemort, and the planet Jupiter. (Or not.)

Still need help?  Perhaps this will do:

Here's the CNN report.  (Why is this news?)

All praise, glory and honor to Joe.My.God for the video link.

Inception Discussion: Who's Inceiving Whom?

This is completely off blog-topic, but have any of you seen the film Inception?  I've been on the road so much this summer that I didn't get to see it until this weekend.  I think it's a movie that people probably either loved or hated.  I loved it.

If you are interested in discussing it, please comment below.

SPOILER ALERT:  DO NOT KEEP READING IF YOU DON'T WANT THE FILM'S ENDING RUINED.

Here are a few of the theories that I have about the film.  These are initial theories, as I've only seen the film once.  I think the clue to what actually happened at the film's ending was in the first 15 minutes during Cobb's interactions with Saito. At that point in the film, we were still learning the rules and didn't know what the hell was going on. I think the clue to what really happened is in there.  I need to see it again.

1.  The Easy Ending

My initial reaction to the ending was that the totem (top) was going to fall. I wanted Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio) to have succeeded in his quest to get back to his children and for the movie to have been at face value.  However, if the ending was actually that simple they would have shown the top fall.

2.  Cobb in Limbo Forever

If I had to venture a guess... Perhaps Saito (Ken Watanabe) and Cobb remained archenemies like they were at the beginning of the film. When Saito beat and tortured Cobb's previous architect on the helicopter, he learned Cobb's secrets in order to use them against him: the circumstances of Mal's death (Marion Cotillard), the cause being the inception that he planted in her that she wasn't in the real world, and Cobb being unable to architect a dream.  Saito used Ariadne (Ellen Page) to extract the information about Cobb's totem so a fake one could be constructed in the dream.  (By the way, in Greek mythology Ariadne was King Midas' daughter.  She helped Theseus by giving him a sword to slay the Minotaur and also a ball of red fleece to lead him out of the Minotaur's labyrinth.  Sound familiar?)

After that, Saito and Ariadne created a dream maze/labyrinth  in order to entrap Cobb in limbo.  A circular illusion like a never-ending staircase.  This dream mission was to plant an inception in Fisher (Cillian Murphy).  Another possible level to this theory is that Mal was the real baddie and architect of the entire plot, with the intention of entrapping Cobb forever.

At the end of the film, when Cobb goes to save Saito in limbo, Saito plants the opposite inception of what Cobb had planted in Mal: the thought that Cobb's world is real. For the inception to work, the initial thought had to come from Cobb, which happened when he decided to go to limbo to save Saito right before Ariadne  jumped off the building. Cobb's decision and the thought, the need to make Saito honor their agreement, then leads Cobb to the idea that he completed the mission, the charges against him are lifted, and that he's returned home to live with his children in the real world.

But instead of waking up, Cobb was transferred from Saito's dream landscape into his own, trapped forever in his subconscious dream limbo, but thinking that it's real.  When old Saito picked up the gun at the end of the dream mission, while in limbo, he probably shot himself to wake up. We didn't see whether he shot Cobb first or not. So, there's an ambiguity here.  But in the end, the inception was about getting Cobb to believe something, not Fisher.  The top never falls.

2. Cobb Escapes Limbo

After Mal died in the real world, Cobb retreated into his dreams and got stuck.  (He may have been one of the people in the basement of the chemist's building that were hooked up to the dream sharing machine because that world had become more real to them.  If that's the case, then perhaps the dream team, lead by Saito, Ariadne, and Arthur (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), etc. went into the dreamscape to rescue Cobb, by concocting the Fisher project.

The project was a front to get Cobb back into the real world.  By successfully planting the Inception in Fisher, as we saw in the film, Cobb believed that he was earning his freedom to return home to the United States, which lead him to believe that he would wake up and live in the real world.  The different levels of the Fisher mission, Ariadne counseling him to kill Mal, Cobb's need to save Saito so that Saito will honor the agreement and give him his freedom, all of these are part of getting Cobb to come to the thought that his life is worth living in the real world.  In this ending the top falls.

4. The Top is a Red Herring, Cobb's Ring Is the Real Totem

As I was embedding hyperlinks in this post, I came across a theory worth checking out.  The key to reality, Cobb's totem, is not the top, but his wedding ring.  Check this theory out by linking here and scrolling down to comment #53 by Catharsis.  His theory is that the reason Christopher Nolan showed us the top not falling at the end, is to reveal to us that it's a red herring.

4.  The Audience Inception Twist -- the Point of the Ending in My Opinion

From a structural perspective, the film had an ambiguous ending for a reason.  The top wobbled but didn't fall, because writer/director Christopher Nolan's brilliance wasn't about what happened in the characters, but in the viewers.

The twist was not about which inception was planted in which character, but which was planted in the viewer. The idea that each audience member grasped onto during the film determines how that person interprets the ending.  Therefore, the ending can be interpreted multiple ways.

Art is about inception, the artist trying to convey an idea, emotion, or message through a medium.  Christopher Nolan succeeded as an artist, he planted ideas into the minds of his audience.

5.  A Plea to Mr. Nolan

Please, please, please, please, please, Christopher Nolan, do not make an sequel!  Don't pull a Matrix Reloaded.  Let Inception stand on it's own, with a universe that is still mysterious and open to interpretation.

Let the top keep spinning!

Elton John, Arizona, Immigration, and the Definition of F*ckwit

     The Arizona Daily Star reports:
Elton John didn't mince words in slamming his fellow musicians for boycotting Arizona over the controversial SB 1070 immigration law. From the stage at his sold-out Tucson Arena concert Thursday night, John savored a few choice, not-so-family-friendly words:
"We are all very pleased to be playing in Arizona. I have read that some of the artists won't come here. They are (expletive)wits! Let's face it: I still play in California, and as a gay man I have no legal rights whatsoever. So what's the (expletive) with these people?"
According to Joe.My.God the expletive used to describe those boycotting Arizona's law was "f*ckwits."  Considering that Elton just got paid a million dollars to sing at outspoken, homophobic, and anti-gay Rush Limbaugh's wedding, I'm left wondering who the true f*ckwit really is.

An Interview with a Survivor of Sexual Abuse Perpetrated by a Catholic Priest

Here are some highlights from a Huffington Post interview of one of the first victims of child sexual abuse by priests to come forward nearly a decade ago, suing the Roman Catholic Church.  Titled "The Man Who Brought Down the Catholic Church," the interview delves into the perspective and experience of abuse-survivor "Princess" and provides a window into the church's hypocrisy and lies from the perspective of one, who was deeply damaged by the church.

On the explosion of sexual exploitation on all levels -- pornography, prostitution, etc. -- and the hypocrisy of the Marriott-owning Mormons.
Yeah, the media always uses sexuality to sell products, and the one thing in this country no one wants to talk about is that children are sexual beings. People are very uncomfortable with that and would prefer to ignore that reality. Still, companies, mainstream companies, have long used children by exploiting them sexually. Think of Brooke Shields' ad ["Nothing comes between me and my Calvins."]. She was what, 14 in that ad? That was very controversial in 1979, '80. I think it's not new, but yeah, people don't look at how come when you check into any Marriott Hotel, you can see all this porn, and yet they're Mormons. They're very conservative, but they're making money in porn. Most hotel chains do that. No one wants to really address it. They want it to go away, they want to sweep it under the rug.
On the Catholic Church's contrition and continuing lies:
But I mean, the Catholic Church continues to this day to lie about what they know and what they allowed. These press releases the Vatican has been handing out the last couple of months just shows them all to be bigger liars than ever.  But I mean, if you think about it, priests, the Catholic Church, they're not supposed to be having sex, and yet they're giving advice about experiences they're not supposed to know about. Which sort of makes no sense.  I don't believe for a minute that they're sincere or sorry that these crimes have been committed, and continue to be committed. I mean, they had seven hospitals in the United States built in the 1960s housing pedophile priests. And yet in 2002, and up to today, they claim that they didn't know the extent of the problem.
On the public's perception and/or indifference to sexual abuse:
I don't think that people, in general, realize the long-term effects that it has on people. I think some people think just, okay, that happened 20, 40 years ago. Buck up, things happen. Be a man, or be a woman. I think one of the reasons they have that reaction is society. Nobody wants to talk about it, because most people know someone who's been sexually abused, and a lot know someone in their family, or whatever, that has sexually abused someone
I don't think they understand it completely, the general public. I think a lot of people want it to go away because it's ugly. They don't want to look at it or hear about it, and I don't think they want to -- I don't think a lot of people want to be educated about the subject matter, just because it's so distasteful. People don't want to hear about children being raped and how that impacts lives down the road. And it's scary, and it could be their children. I know it's one of the reasons they should hear about it, but I think it's one of the reasons that makes them uncomfortable.

Lightning Destroys Big Butter Jesus in Monroe, Ohio

Sick and tired of bad religious art, the Christian god, who controls volcanoes and earthquakes, sent a lighting bolt into the heart of a touchdown Jesus, destroying the statue which is also known as "Big Butter Jesus."

     The Dayton Daily News reports:
Charred remnants remained this morning, June 15, of the large Jesus statue iconic to Interstate 75 that was destroyed following an apparent lightning strike during a thunderstorm late Monday night.  The Lawrence Bishop Music Theater at Solid Rock Church on Union Road endured smoke damage, according to officials.
Damages to the King of Kings statue and the theater were estimated to be around $700,000, said Monroe Fire Chief Mark Neu.  No one was injured in the blaze.
$700,000 to rebuild a wood, Styrofoam, and fiberglass Jesus?

I wonder how many of Ohio's homeless, orphaned, and uninsured could use $700,000.

Elisabeth Hasselbeck Hates Kathy Griffith, The View Interview Reveals All

Good Roman Catholic and bad hostess Elisabeth Hasselbeck showed her true colors on The View yesterday, when comedian Kathy Griffith (My Life on the D-List) was a guest.

Throughout the interview, Hasselbeck stews in her seat like a spoiled child that hasn't gotten her way.  She rolls her eyes, scowls, and focuses on her fingernails.  Then, when there are seconds left in the interview and after remaining silent, Elisabeth pounces on Kathy, who forcefully and respectfully puts Elisabeth in her place.  Why Elisabeth is allowed to continue on this show after years of treating guests and fellow hostesses poorly is beyond me.  She doesn't even have the professional discipline to put on a poker face.

Here is the interview in its entirety.

Tim Minchin's "Pope Song" Versus Pope Benedict's Cover-Up and Enabling of Sexual Abuse by Priests: Hypocrisy Poll Results

Which is more offensive Tim Minchin's "Pope Song," which you can see by clicking here, or  Pope Benedict's cover-up and enabling of sexual abuse by priests, which you can see by opening any non right-wing Catholic-run newspaper in the world?

92% of you voted that the Pope's actions are more offensive.  You give me hope for a better tomorrow and for the safety of future generations of children.

8% of you think that Tim Minchin's song is more offensive than the Pope protecting child rapists.  Perhaps, you should be required to enroll your children in schools and youth groups, where "reformed" sexual predators will teach them everything they need to know about god.  You should also invite Pedobear to your children's next birthday party.

For you 8% and the millions of Catholics, who continue to stand by your man in the dress and ruby slippers, I offer this quote from Tim Minchin's "Pope Song."  Don't worry, I blotted out the "bad" words, so you won't be offended.

This one is for all of you ultramontanists out there, who believe Pope Benedict has always had your children's best interests at heart:

And if you look into your motherf---ing heart and tell me true
If this motherf---ing stupid f---ing song offended you
With its filthy f---ing language and it’s f---ing disrespect
If it made you feel angry, go ahead and write a letter
But if you find me more offensive than the f---ing possibility
That the Pope protected priests when they were getting f---ing fiddly
Then listen to me, motherf---er, this here is a fact:
You are just as morally misguided as that motherf---ing
Power-hungry, self-aggrandized bigot in the stupid f---ing hat
Oh.  And, you're also reading the wrong blog.

Catholic Mark Wahlberg's Priest: "No Brokeback for You"

[he stands, unzips his pants and pulls out his penis]
I am a star. I'm a star, I'm a star, I'm a star. I am a big, bright, shining star. That's right.
[he rezips his pants]

The 38-year-old reformed bad boy relies on his closest confidante and longtime religious mentor, the Rev. James Flavin, to help him pick and choose his parts. 'Mark is a practicing Catholic, and he never makes a final decision on a starring role until Father Flavin gives his OK,' an insider revealed to The Enquirer. 'Mark says he owes his career to Father Flavin.' ... 'Father Flavin pushes Mark to honor his religious roots,' said the source. 'Even though Mark was offered one of the leads in Brokeback Mountain, he passed because of the gay subject matter, which clashes with Catholic doctrine.
Because we all know that the Catholic Church and its doctrine are the best role model of morality for Hollywood (maybe Roman Polanski).  And speaking of wood, what did Father Flavin think of Mark's full-frontal role as a drug addicted, porn star in Boogie Nights?  I bet the good father loved this scene (courtesy of IMBD):
Dirk: [as Brock] You still hungry?
Jessie St, Vincent: Starving.
[unzipping his pants]
Dirk: [as Brock] Then feast on that.

And cue Father Flavin's Funky Bunch.

To see the entire list of Catholic-approved films in the Wahlberg-Flavin canon, click here.  To see his Calvin Klien underwear adds click here.  I bet Father Flavin was all over those.

Since Walhberg was "creeped out" by Brokeback Mountain, I wonder who he would play in a Sodom and Gommorah film.  No doubt Father Flavin would advise Mark to play the hero, Lot, or better yet, Yahweh, and not one of the evil Sodomites.  No, wait, Saint Mel Gibson would play the Lord.  John Travolta and Kevin Spacey the "angels."  And Tom Cruise the leader of the Sodomites.

But wait, who is the real bad guy in that Genesis myth anyway?

Maybe a refresher course courtesy of Betsy's Sunday School Bible Classics written by Betsy Salkind will help.

Tiger Wood's Nike Commercial Gets Christian Bale Overhaul

The new Nike commercial featuring Tiger Woods and his back-from-the-dead father Earl Woods telling Tiger what he thinks of Tiger's sex scandal has been re-dubbed with Christian Bale's violent and inappropriate Terminator Salvation meltdown.  Strangely, it doesn't seem as out of place when placed over the "let's make money off of Tiger's adultery and mysterious addiction" Nike commercial.
If you haven't heard the Bale rant before, it's full of F-bombs.  So don't click the video if you are easily offended.

The View Opens a Can of Whoopie Ass on Homophobic Bigot Mike Huckabee

Why not continue to adopt the Christian way, like Christian World Adoptions.  They buy Ethiopian children from their parents and then sell them to Christian families in the U.S.A.  The children are told they are going on an exchange program, and don't realize until they get to the U.S.A. that the good Christians lied to them and never intended to return them to their families.  CWA made $5.2 million in 2008 trafficking Ethiopian children to the U.S.A.   (A video about this heinous hypocrisy is embedded at the bottom of this post.)

The View's Whoopie Goldberg, Joy Behar, and even the more conservative Sherri Shepherd take Huckabee to task on his hypocrisy, Sherri telling him that as a Christian it's supposed to be about love, not hate.
