Will Right-Wing Christians Go after Interracial Marriages Next?

46% of these hardcore Republican voters believe interracial marriage should be illegal, while 40% think it should be legal.
No, this isn't 1966 when interracial marriage became legal in Mississippi.  This is 2011.

But who are these "hardcore Republicans"?

The PPP poll also revealed that [Sarah] Palin has more support among voters who believe interracial marriage should be illegal than among those who are OK with it. Mitt Romney's numbers reveal just the opposite. He has a higher favorability among Mississippi Republicans who want interracial marriage to remain legal.
     Interesting.

One thing I hear all the time from well-intentioned supporters of marriage equality is "Just be patient.  The next generation is more accepting. Things will change in another ten or twenty years."  Well check out this result from the poll:

Incredible Statistics: DADT & the DREAM Act Are Supported by the Vast Majority of Americans

There are many reasons that the Republicans claim they blocked the Defense Authorization Bill in the Senate today.

The two amendments that they objected to in the bill were the repeal of Don't Ask Don't Tell, which wasn't to go into effect until the military deemed it the right time, and the passage of the DREAM Act, which would grant citizenship to college graduates who were brought to the United States illegally by their parents when they were children.

Here is some incredible data regarding the DREAM Act and DADT via TruthOut:
It is important to note that senators representing a relatively small minority of the American population sustained a filibuster of a bill despite the fact that it contained very popular provisions. According to polling, 70 percent of Americans support the DREAM Act and 75 percent of Americans support fully repealing DADT.
The 42 senators who filibustered the bill, on the other hand, represent only 36 percent of the American population. Thanks to senate procedure, a small minority can easily obstruct the will of the vast majority of the public.

Should John McCain Be Required to Legally Change his Name? Vote in the New Hypocrisy Poll

Should Senator John McCain, Baptist, be required to legally change his name, because he's no longer John McCain?

  • Yes.  He's not the same principled maverick he used to be.

Vote in the left hand column of the Holy Blog, but before you do, consider John McCain's recent hypocritical actions that indicate he is no longer the same person.

Maybe it all started when he distanced himself from George Bush during the presidential election, after these delightful moments of intimacy.

Or he's been infiltrated by an illegal alien, from Uranus.

Tim Minchin's "Pope Song" Versus Pope Benedict's Cover-Up and Enabling of Sexual Abuse by Priests: Hypocrisy Poll Results

Which is more offensive Tim Minchin's "Pope Song," which you can see by clicking here, or  Pope Benedict's cover-up and enabling of sexual abuse by priests, which you can see by opening any non right-wing Catholic-run newspaper in the world?

92% of you voted that the Pope's actions are more offensive.  You give me hope for a better tomorrow and for the safety of future generations of children.

8% of you think that Tim Minchin's song is more offensive than the Pope protecting child rapists.  Perhaps, you should be required to enroll your children in schools and youth groups, where "reformed" sexual predators will teach them everything they need to know about god.  You should also invite Pedobear to your children's next birthday party.

For you 8% and the millions of Catholics, who continue to stand by your man in the dress and ruby slippers, I offer this quote from Tim Minchin's "Pope Song."  Don't worry, I blotted out the "bad" words, so you won't be offended.

This one is for all of you ultramontanists out there, who believe Pope Benedict has always had your children's best interests at heart:

And if you look into your motherf---ing heart and tell me true
If this motherf---ing stupid f---ing song offended you
With its filthy f---ing language and it’s f---ing disrespect
If it made you feel angry, go ahead and write a letter
But if you find me more offensive than the f---ing possibility
That the Pope protected priests when they were getting f---ing fiddly
Then listen to me, motherf---er, this here is a fact:
You are just as morally misguided as that motherf---ing
Power-hungry, self-aggrandized bigot in the stupid f---ing hat
Oh.  And, you're also reading the wrong blog.

Should Mike Huckabee be Allowed to Adopt Puppies? Hypocrisy Poll Results

Should Mike Huckabee, who went on a homophobic rant last week, telling gays who want to adopt that "children are not puppies," be allowed to adopt puppies?

This was the question of the Holy Blog's latest hypocrisy poll

           You voted.

           Here are the results.

28% of those polled voted "Yes: Puppies need Huckabee's Jesus to be saved from puppy purgatory."

71% voted "NO: Huckabee should not be allowed to teach his version of right wing Christian, hatred, fear, and discrimination to cute, vulnerable, innocent, needy, and malleable puppies."

Either way, we're all hypocrites: the "no" votes for allowing Huckabee's hypocritical, homophobic ways to be passed onto poor little puppies and the "yes" votes for wanting equal puppy civil rights, while voting to limit Huckabee's puppy adoption rights.

Oy vey.  What is a gay puppy enthusiast to do?  And, do all gay dogs go to heaven?

Good Friday Hypocrisy, Majority of Christians Support Capital Punishment

It's Good Friday and Christians around the world are mourning/celebrating the death of their savior on a cross, the popular instrument of capital punishment in Jesus' time.  One would think that worshiping a non-violent savior put to death by such violent means would result in Christians being opposed to the death penalty.

           Wrong!

The majority of Christians in the United States support the death penalty, as indicated by these graphs of a 2004 Gallup Poll taken from the Death Penalty Information Center.  In fact the group with the least support of the death penalty, is those like me who have no religious preference.
Here are the results of a poll in 2005 by the Pew Research Center.

Hypocrisy Poll: Carrie Prejean vs. Lauren Ashley vs. Sarah Palin

Fundamentalist Christian beauty hypocrisy queen and tea-bagger extraordinaire Carrie Prejean is at it again.  The masturbation-movie star and Christian Right's pinup girl for condemning same sex couple's equal marriage rights is opposed to so much more, but now, Prejean is the one being sued.

           TMZ reports:
Carrie Prejean isn't just opposed to gay marriage, she's also opposed to paying more than $64,000 to the "Christian-focused" PR firm who helped her out, this according to a new lawsuit.  The group -- A. Larry Ross Communications -- claims Prejean contacted them back in April, 2009 and logged "hundreds of hours" helping Prejean spread her "biblically correct" message.  But according to the lawsuit, filed earlier this month in Texas, Prejean's actions were the opposite of Christian -- because she never paid the $64,857 bill.
My guess is that Prejean thinks she's being "biblically correct" in not paying her bills.  Leviticus 25:36-37 says:
Do not exact interest from your countryman either in money or in kind, but out of fear of God let him live with you.  You are to lend him neither money at interest nor food at a profit.  [Also stated in Exodus, Deuteronomy, Nehemiah, Psalms, Proverbs, and Ezekiel.]
Prejean probably interprets this passage to mean that a good anit-gay Christian doesn't have to pay her bills.  That greedy PR firm just wants profit!  They should be opening their doors to let her live with them (a.k.a. represent her) for free.  That gluttonous (not that she would use a word that large), biblically correct PR firm is just another attempt of the liberal media and gay mafia to try and take her down.

           Prejean is a hypocrite!

The Holy Blog wants to know what you think.

Who is the bigger Hypocrisy Queen?  Carrie Prejean or Lauren Ashley?  And just for kicks let's throw former beauty queen Sarah Palin in there.

Vote in the left column of the Holy Blog.

          Carrie's greatest hit/gay bash:
Well I think it's great that Americans are able to choose one way or the other. We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage. And, you know what, in my country, in my family, I think that I believe that marriage should be between a man and a woman, no offense to anybody out there. But that’s how I was raised and I believe that it should be between a man and a woman.
           Ashely's greatest bash:
The Bible says that marriage is between a man and a woman. In Leviticus it says, 'If man lies with mankind as he would lie with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death and their blood shall be upon them.' The Bible ispretty black and white.  I feel like God [sic] himself created mankind and he loves everyone, and he has the best for everyone. If he says that having sex with someone of your same gender is going to bring death upon you, that's a pretty stern warning, and he knows more than we do about life.

Here's what Palin, Prejean, Ashley's Christian-authored New Testament has to say about how women should dress:
Women should adorn themselves with proper conduct, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hairstyles and gold ornaments, or pearls, or expensive clothes. (1 Timothy 2:9)
Your adornment should not be an external one: braiding the hair, wearing gold jewelry, or dressing in fine clothes, but rather the hidden character of the heart, expressed in the imperishable beauty of a gentle and calm disposition, which is precious in the sight of God.  For this is also how the holy women who hoped in God once used to adorn themselves and were subordinate to their husbands. (1 Peter 3:2-5)
So much for the unification of church and pageant.

      Hypocrisy Poll: Cindy McCain

So Cindy McCain has come out of the closet in support of same sex marriage equality and has even posed for the NOH8 campaign, which reports:
In the year since we've started the NOH8 Campaign, we've often been surprised at some of the different individuals who have approached us showing their support. Few, though, have surprised us more than Cindy McCain - the wife of Senator John McCain and mother to vocal marriage equality advocate Meghan McCain. The McCains are one of the most well-known Republican families in recent history, and for Mrs. McCain to have reached out to us to offer her support truly means a lot. Although we had worked with Meghan McCain before and were aware of her own position, we'd never really thought the cause might be something her mother would get behind. We have a huge amount of respect for both of these women for being brave enough to make it known they support equal marriage rights for all Americans.
So, what do you think?   Is she for real?

Vote in the new hypocrisy poll in the right hand column of the Holy Blog.

Is Cindy McCain a hypocrite for coming out in support same sex marriage equality now?
      • No.  Thank you Cindy for supporting equality, better late than never.  I Cindy.
      • Yes.  While I appreciate the support, where were you in 2008 when Prop 8 passed?  Too inconvenient for your political career to come out before the vote when it could have made a difference?
      • Yes.  This has to be some sort of political ploy.  She can't be serious.
      • Yes.  How dare she betray her husband's Republican legacy and traditional family values.
      • Cindy who?

PS.  Where's your picture, First Lady Obama?
