Lightning Destroys Big Butter Jesus in Monroe, Ohio

Sick and tired of bad religious art, the Christian god, who controls volcanoes and earthquakes, sent a lighting bolt into the heart of a touchdown Jesus, destroying the statue which is also known as "Big Butter Jesus."

     The Dayton Daily News reports:
Charred remnants remained this morning, June 15, of the large Jesus statue iconic to Interstate 75 that was destroyed following an apparent lightning strike during a thunderstorm late Monday night.  The Lawrence Bishop Music Theater at Solid Rock Church on Union Road endured smoke damage, according to officials.
Damages to the King of Kings statue and the theater were estimated to be around $700,000, said Monroe Fire Chief Mark Neu.  No one was injured in the blaze.
$700,000 to rebuild a wood, Styrofoam, and fiberglass Jesus?

I wonder how many of Ohio's homeless, orphaned, and uninsured could use $700,000.

Elisabeth Hasselbeck Hates Kathy Griffith, The View Interview Reveals All

Good Roman Catholic and bad hostess Elisabeth Hasselbeck showed her true colors on The View yesterday, when comedian Kathy Griffith (My Life on the D-List) was a guest.

Throughout the interview, Hasselbeck stews in her seat like a spoiled child that hasn't gotten her way.  She rolls her eyes, scowls, and focuses on her fingernails.  Then, when there are seconds left in the interview and after remaining silent, Elisabeth pounces on Kathy, who forcefully and respectfully puts Elisabeth in her place.  Why Elisabeth is allowed to continue on this show after years of treating guests and fellow hostesses poorly is beyond me.  She doesn't even have the professional discipline to put on a poker face.

Here is the interview in its entirety.

Perry v. Schwarzenegger Closing Arguments, Prop 8 Supporters Want to Un-recognize 18,000 Legal Marriages

The closing arguments of Perry v. Schwarzenegger, which will determine the fate of marriage equality and the legality of the discriminatory California Proposition 8, begin at 10:00 PST today.

You can follow the trial at Prop 8 Trial Tracker or follow on Twitter at #Prop8.

Both sides are going for broke.  Attorney Ted Olson will be arguing for the complete reversal of the discriminatory and anti-gay law.

Attorney Andrew Pugno and Prop 8's sponsors are not only arguing for the ban to be upheld, but also:
"urging the judge to go a step further and revoke state recognition of the marriages of 18,000 gay and lesbian couples who wed before voters passed Proposition 8...
Andrew Pugno, an attorney for Prop. 8's backers, said in an interview that the sponsors aren't asking Walker to nullify the 18,000 marriages, but only to rule that government agencies, courts and businesses no longer have to recognize the couples as married."  (San Francisco Chronicle)
How does it serve the good of the institution of civil marriage to allow individual agencies, businesses, and people to decide whether they recognize this marriage or that?  These "traditional marriage" supporters are doing more to undermine the institution of marriage than those of us fighting for equal access to it.

Whatever the outcome, this case is headed to the Catholic dominated Supreme Court.  I expect them to eventually rule on behalf of the Catholic/Mormon sponsored Prop 8.

That doesn't mean I'm going to give up.
